Tommy Paul follows in Andy Roddick's footsteps and will play in his first Australian semi-final

Of the new generation of American tennis players, Tommy Paul, is coming of age. The 25-year-old has reached his first Australian Open semi-final, which is also his first at a major, after beating compatriot Ben Shelton 7-6(6), 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 on Wednesday.

Paul is the first player from his country to reach this far in over a decade - since Andy Roddick in 2009.

Paul, who is ranked 35th in the ATP rankings and reached the fourth round of Wimbledon 2022, awaits the winner of the match between Novak Djokovic and Andrey Rublev in the penultimate round.
