Google layoffs: As it builds a huge new tower here, news drops that Alphabet is cutting 12,000 jobs

CEO Sundar Pichai said the move will come in all of the Silicon Valley-based company's units and geographies. But some areas will be more heavily impacted, including recruiting and projects outside of the companys core businesses. The news will certainly be of interest to other tech companies starving for talent and there may also be real estate opportunities and concerns.
