Rishi Sunak is more dangerous and radical than Just Stop Oil, Caroline Lucas says
Rishi Sunaks energy policies are more dangerous and radical than Just Stop Oil protestors, Caroline Lucas warned before stepping down as the Green Partys only MP.
Ms Lucas, who had two spells as leader of her party, will not stand at the next election to focus on fighting nature and climate emergencies, she has announced.
Ms Lucas said her role in Parliament meant she had struggled to spend the time I want on the crises facing the environment.
I have therefore decided not to stand again as your MP at the next election, she told constituents in a letter.
And speaking to the BBC, she lashed out at the prime minister for granting new licences to drill for oil and gas. Ms Lucas warned the world is careering towards a cliff edge due to global warming, saying the actions of radical climate protesters are understandable.
Ms Lucas said: I just remember those words from Antnio Guterres, the UN secretary general, where he said the truly dangerous radicals are not people who are protesting in the streets, its governments who arent facing up to the size of the emergency that we face and are still, for example in the case of our own government, licensing more oil and gas.
