Unseeded Karolina Muchova has not had an easy ride
The Czech 26-year-old has not had an easy run to this year's showpiece finale. Being unseeded, she drew No 8 seed Maria Sakkari in the first round - but saw her off in straight sets. She dropped the second set against Podorsoka in the second round, before beating Begu, Avanesyan and Pavlyuchenkova on her way to the semi-final.
Thursday's semi was a back-and-forth encounter with the No 2 seed, Aryna Sabalenka being one of the best players in the planet right now. But despite Sabalenka's opportunities, Muchova saw her opponent off with a 7-6 6-7 7-5 victory.
