The story behind me, Alastair Cook watching Luton Towns heroics
You may have seen that picture doing the rounds of myself and Alastair Cook at Wembley. We were there on Saturday, watching Luton win the play-off final and let me tell you this: it was one of the best days of our Iives.
I am Luton through and through. I was born at Luton and Dunstable Hospital, went to school in Luton and played for Bedfordshire. But you may not know that Cookie is also a season-ticket holder his father-in-law has been supporting theclub for years and their family are die-hard supporters. I felt as nervous as I did at any time playing for England the picture gives it away. And Cookiewas, too you can see he had to loosen his orange tie to deal with the tension. So when they won it was like nothing else.
To see Luton Town promoted to the Premier League, alongsideCookie in the Royal Box at Wembley, is something I will remember forever. It brought tears to our eyes. Anybody near us would have been in little doubt who we were supporting.Cookie was commentating throughout the first half. The words come on, now pass it and run down the line were on repeat.
