Patrick Mahomes: Chiefs head coach Andy Reid reveals they are taking injured QB 'day by day'
Patrick Mahomes is being assessed on a daily basis ahead of this weekend's AFC Championship game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has confirmed.
Mahomes suffered a high-ankle sprain during Kansas City's 27-20 Divisional Round win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, with Arden Key falling on and damaging the quarterback's right lower leg after tackling him in the first quarter.
Backup Chad Henne entered the game with 9:59 left in the second quarter, shortly after Mahomes was told by coach Andy Reid to go back to the locker room for an examination.
After heading back to the bench and watching Henne drive the Chiefs 98 yards on 12 plays for a touchdown, he eventually returned in the second half and went 4 of 7 for 50 yards in the third quarter and 6 of 8 for 61 yards in the fourth, while producinga touchdown pass to Marquez Valdes-Scantling for a 27-17 lead with 7:08 remaining.
