Newcastle on verge of beating Chelsea to Anthony Gordon signing
Newcastle United are growing in confidence they will beat Chelsea to the signing of Anthony Gordon from Everton, with the player keen on a move to St James Park.
Newcastle had a bid worth around 35 million rejected by Everton last summer but as revealed by Telegraph Sport last week, they have rekindled their interest in the forward following the departure of Chris Wood to Nottingham Forest. They are hoping to finalise a deal to sign Gordon in the next few days and believe Everton are willing to sell, though both clubs are apart in their valuations of the player.
Talks have been intensified since last weekend and it is hoped an agreement can be announced after the first leg of Newcastles League Cup semi-final against Southampton on Tuesday night.
