MLS 'open to the idea of using an 18-team playoff format'

Major League Soccer is reportedly considering using an 18-team format with less than a month to go until the season starts.

The league was already considering changing the first round of the playoffs to a best-of-three series and then having the semifinals and finals change to a single-game elimination format, according to The Athletic.

The report claims the possible changes have been linked back to the motivation to increase the amount of games being played for the new MLS Season Pass and Apple TV deals.
