McLaren F1 star Oscar Piastri 'pretty frustrated' with Spanish Grand Prix qualifying
A little slip in the wet and young Aussie F1 star Oscar Piastri was left lamenting a lower place on the grid than he first anticipated.
Or hoped for.
With just over 100,000 spectators watching on as Max Verstappen ran his Red Bull flying machine the fastest around the circuit and will race off pole, with Piastri starting from 9th.
But the Aussie in his McLaren was on pace to start 7th.
However, a mistake in the slippery final sector meant he could do no better than 1:13.682s - which was still five seconds faster than last year. That's because the circuit has changed a bit for this year's renewal.
'I was honestly on a decent lap until that point,' he said to Speedcafe.
'Broke a little bit too late for turn 10, missed the apex a little bit, and then hit a wet part of the track and it was game over from there.
'Pretty frustrated with myself,. In all honesty, it was a good session until then, just messed up when it counted.
'I think we should have had both cars up towards the front, so a shame, but that's where it went wrong.'
