Iran footballer arrested during training session for 'spreading propaganda'
An Iranian footballer has been arrested during a training session after he was alleged to have spread propaganda about the regime.
Voria Ghafouri, 35, was detained by security forces on Thursday (November 24) while at the base of his club Foolad Khuzestan. He's accused of having tarnished the reputation of the national team and spread propaganda against the state.
News agencies reported on Thursday that he was arrested for insulting the side, which is currently playing in the World Cup and lost 6-2 in their opening game, as well as criticising the government.

It is believed that Ghafouri had opted not to head to the World Cup in Qatar - while he has been been an outspoken critic of Iranian authorities and policies throughout his playing career.
