Harry Brook takes a step closer to being included in England's World Cup squad after being called up...
Harry Brook's inclusion in England's World Cup squad has come a step closer after he was belatedly called up as cover for the four-match one-day series against New Zealand starting on Friday in Cardiff.
Brook's inclusion in the 15-man party, which doesn't have to be finalised until September 28, has been inevitable ever since he played match-winning hands in the two T20 wins over the New Zealanders at Chester-le-Street and Old Trafford.
But a minor injury concern for Jonny Bairstow, who suffered soreness in his right shoulder after making 73 in 41 balls in last night's T20 defeat by New Zealand at Trent Bridge, has allowed England to include Brook in a 17-man squad for the ODIs.
With Moeen Ali's wife due to give birth in the next week or so, Brook is likely to get an early chance to prove why he should be on the plane to India for the World Cup, which starts on October 5.
