Donny van de Beek's Man Utd regret emerges after Erik ten Hag makes ruthless decision
Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek was offered multiple exit routes out of his Old Trafford nightmare this summer but bizarrely opted to stay put.
Ligue 1 outfit FC Lorient were the team that came forward with the most concrete interest, but the Netherlands international was not interested in their proposal and sat around on deadline day waiting for alternative options. The Red Devils had actually accepted the French outfit's proposal, but it was Van de Beek who dug his heels in and rejected the switch.
As a result, Lorient were forced to explore other options. They weren't the only side who floated the idea of landing the Dutchman's signature, Van de Beek's former side Ajax were thought to be keen on bringing the 26-year-old back to the Amsterdam Arena, but only on loan which wasn't a tempting enough proposition in the eyes of the midfielder.
He may wish he'd have accepted one of those offers now though, after United boss Erik ten Hag has left Van de Beek out of his 25-man squad for the Champions League. To add further insult to injury, the club's newest addition has been included in Sofyan Amrabat, whose presence in turn surely knocks Van de Beek even further down the pecking order.
