Brighton make improved offer of 14mfor Shakhtar Donetsk centre-back Mykola Matviyenko

Brighton have made an improved offer of 14million for Shakhtar Donetsk centre-back Mykola Matviyenko.

As previously reported, the Seagulls had previously seen a 10m bid rejected by the Ukrainian club.

The south coast club have been in talks with their Ukrainian counterparts in recent days, though so far they have fallen short of Shakhtar's 20m valuation.

Matviyenko was an ever-present at the heart of the Shakhtar defence before Christmas, playing every minute of the side's Champions League campaign.
