Blues legend Paul Gallen calls for players to do more to promote State of Origin and the game if
Paul Gallen wants Queensland and New South Wales players to do more to promote State of Origin and fuel the rivalry between the two teams.
The Blues legend's plea comes after the NRL last week admitted over 12,000 tickets for the series opener at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday nightwere still unsold.
When the interstate rivalry visited the City of Churches for the first time, just over 25,000 fans attended Game I of the 2020 series at the Adelaide Oval.
And Gallen believes it is up to the players to ensure ticket sales outside New South Wales and Queensland prove as successful as in the two states.
'It's a shame players don't take it upon themselves much these days to fuel the State of Origin rivalry and really promote games,' Gallen wrote in his column for Channel Nine.
The former New South Wales captain, who played 24 times for the Blues, revealed he was approached by then-NRL boss Dave Smith ahead of Game II of the 2015 series.
